Have you been putting off going wedding dress shopping? Perhaps you’re wondering what is it like wedding dress shopping in COVID? Or perhaps you weren’t sure if your wedding was going to go ahead. Well, we’re looking at the 2021 wedding season with some positivity now however we know the current restrictions such as masks will be in for a while yet. So what is it like wedding dress shopping in COVID? We asked some of our brides who have purchased dresses in the last few months.
Would you believe October 2020 was one of our busiest months ever in terms of orders? We have noticed a trend amongst our brides though, many are visiting a much smaller selection of shops than they would have in “normal” times. With everyone doing their part in limiting their movement and social interaction this only seems natural. We’ve also noticed a lot more brides selecting dresses from our website before coming to the store. This is certainly worthwhile but we do still encourage our brides to have a browse and also try on a few of our recommendations too!
But what is the COVID bridal shopping experience like?
We asked Christina who bought her dress with us in October 2020.
Prior to going dress shopping did you have any concerns about wedding dress shopping at the moment? “I was worried that.. I didn’t enjoy my experience or that maybe it was not going to be so special as my family couldn’t come because of the situation.”
Do you feel you still got the wedding dress shopping experience? “My best friend was with me. Sue made sure the experience was lovely and she helped with her ideas on the style of dress I wanted.”
We also spoke to Estelle who bought her dress just in time for Lockdown 2.0!
Prior to going dress shopping did you have any concerns about wedding dress shopping at the moment?
“That my dress may not arrive in time or would be delayed, that my mum or maid of honour may not have been able to come with me, if I found THE dress that I’d have to wear a mask the whole time”
Do you feel you still got the wedding dress shopping experience?
“Absolutely!!!! Apart from the glass of bubbly haha.”
What made you purchase/look now? Are you concerned about your wedding going ahead? “I got my dress in time before lockdown 2.0 happened which was perfect timing- I’m a little worried about our wedding not going ahead in July 2020, but we’re trying to remain positive and not make any rushed or panicked decisions by letting the pressure get to us – only time will tell. The world was a very different place 8 months ago, so who knows what will happen in another 8 months!”
So, what are we doing in-store to keep you safe?
There are a few changes, while London is in tier 2 your guest needs to be from your household or bubble but we have an iPad set up to dial in anyone who can’t attend! You will have to wear a mask within current guidelines, as will our staff but actually, this hasn’t impacted our brides as much as they thought it would!
We’re offering a reduced number of appointments at the moment to allow time between each appointment to clean the store and the dresses to ensure you’re safe within our store. This does mean we’re also not offering refreshments at the moment in order to limit some of the work between appointments for our staff. We ask that you come prepared with a water bottle, there are also lots of lovely coffee shops just outside the station in Wandsworth or Parsons Green depending on which way you’re coming from and we know they could use your support now more than ever.
